Biography

Oluwayemisi Adegboyega is a passionate public historian from Osun State, Nigeria. She is deeply committed to preserving and interpreting the past. Her love for history began in childhood, driven by curiosity about how events unfolded, the stories behind them, and the people who lived through them. She understands that history is not just about dates and facts—it is about making the past meaningful and relevant to the present.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Studies from Osun State University, Nigeria, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Public History at Middle Tennessee State University, with a focus on Archival Management. Her studies have exposed her to different areas of public history, including Oral History, Archival Management, and Museum Management.

Some of her most fulfilling academic experiences include Dr. Cyrana Dowell’s course on Oral History: Theory and Methodology, where she conducted weekly interviews with colleagues and contributed to the MTSU Faculty Oral History Project. This project documented the personal and professional journeys of faculty and administrators who have shaped the university’s growth. She also excelled in Dr. Andrew Maginn’s Digital Tools for Historians course, where she created digital platforms and projects using WordPress, Omeka and ArcGIS. These experiences sharpened her research and creative skills while giving her the opportunity to engage with history in innovative ways. Beyond the classroom, Oluwayemisi gained valuable hands-on training at the Albert Gore Research Center, where she deepened her understanding of how archival institutions function and serve the public.

Her ultimate goal is to build a successful career as a public historian—preserving, interpreting, and advocating for stories that connect people to their heritage. Whether in archives, museums, or cultural institutions, she is dedicated to ensuring these stories endure and remain accessible for future generations.
